The Leadership Moment Series-7

2017: What an Amazing year!

I finally commenced my annual review meetings after a Speaker Series on Investment opportunities in Frontier Africa and other areas. From #AgriIndaba, Capetown, #InvestInAfrica, #SheLeadsAfrica, #FOA2017 (FriendsofAfrica), to #WomenInBusiness, these sessions engaged bright mindsacross a broad spectrum of investment, business, and public/private sector experts…..

Interactions were most exciting (or incisive?) not only because of the interest elicited as panelists circled round the Narrative on #Afri-opportunity, but also due to the influx of debt/equity Capital-a cumulative $51b (approx.) into Africa since 2007, thus lending further credence to #afri-opportunity. However, some burning questions remain on the #Afri-opportunity agenda as follows:

  • When, if, and how can huge infrastructure, economic, governance, inter and intra-trade deficits begin to swing to surpluses…
  • Which of the reformist African Nations could spearhead regional collaborations, and begin execution to facilitate intra-regional trade, improve GDP, cut importation ($32b on food imports), minimize post-harvest losses in Agribusiness, etc;
  • How can Africa begin to think big again, and get on the global radar?
